Cut refers to how well a diamond has been shaped and faceted. It's the most important of the 4Cs as it directly affects the diamond's brilliance and sparkle.
Cut Grades:
• Excellent: Maximum brilliance and fire
• Very Good: Excellent light performance
• Good: Well-proportioned, good sparkle
• Fair: Some light loss
• Poor: Significant light loss
CLARITY
Clarity measures the presence of inclusions (internal) and blemishes (external). Fewer inclusions mean higher clarity and value.
Clarity Grades:
• FL/IF: Flawless/Internally Flawless
• VVS1/VVS2: Very Very Slightly Included
• VS1/VS2: Very Slightly Included
• SI1/SI2: Slightly Included
• I1-I3: Included
COLOUR
Diamond color grades measure the absence of color. The less color a diamond has, the higher its value.
Color Scale (D-Z):
• D-F: Colorless (most valuable)
• G-J: Nearly colorless
• K-M: Faint color
• N-Z: Light to fancy color
CARAT
Carat is the unit of weight for diamonds and gemstones. One carat equals 200 milligrams. Carat weight significantly impacts price.
Important Notes:
• Price increases exponentially with carat weight
• A 2-carat diamond costs much more than two 1-carat diamonds
• Carat weight alone doesn't determine value
• Quality matters as much as weight
